Regular Season Round 11: Illiabum - Benfica 63-62

LPB round 11 most interesting game took place in Ilhavo (derby !!!) between Illiabum and Benfica. Eleventh ranked Illiabum (4-7) got a very close home victory over second-ranked Benfica (8-3). Illiabum managed to escape with a 1-point win 63-62 on Sunday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Benfica. The hosts trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 1-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 63-62. It was a great evening for American swingman Ricondo Crutchfield (200-78, college: Philadelphia, agency: Hart Sports Mngm) who led his team to a victory scoring 16 points and 6 rebounds. His fellow American import power forward Emanuel Willis (205-84, college: Houston Baptist) helped adding 16 points and 5 rebounds. International forward Heshimu Evans (198-75, college: Kentucky) responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds and American swingman Ben Reed (191-83, college: W.Michigan) scored 16 points and 8 rebounds. Illiabum moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Penafiel. Defending champion Benfica keeps the second position with three games lost. Illiabum is looking forward to face higher ranked Sampaense (#8) in Coimbra in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Benfica will play on the road against CAB (#7) in Funchal and is hoping to win this game.
