There was no surprise in Balikesir where 10th ranked Bornova (5-9) was defeated by third ranked Banvit (12-2) 92-74 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Banvit. Bornova managed to win fourth quarter 21-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Banvit outrebounded Bornova 42-23 including a 27-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American-Azerbaijan forward Charles Davis (202-84, college: Alabama) who scored 18 points and 5 rebounds. Montenegrin-Serbian center Vladimir Golubovic (213-86) chipped in 14 points and 8 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). The former international forward Umit Sonkol (206-82) produced 19 points and 6 rebounds and Lithuanian power forward Tomas Nagys (209-80, college: Clemson) added 13 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Banvit have an impressive six-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Fener.Ulker. Bornova lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the tenth place with nine games lost. They share the position with Tofas and Trabzonspor. Banvit will meet bottom-ranked Oyak Renault (#16) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Bornova will play against Aliaga (#13) and hope to secure a win.
