Regular Season Round 10: Balkan 2 - Academik PL 97-86

The most important game in the last round took place in Botevgrad between third ranked Academik Plovdiv (6-3) and fifth ranked Balkan 2 (5-4) on Sunday night. Academik Plovdiv was defeated by Balkan 2 on the road 86-97. The game was mostly controlled by Balkan 2. Academik Plovdiv managed to win third quarter 22-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Balkan 2 forced 23 Academik Plovdiv turnovers. Strangely Academik Plovdiv outrebounded Balkan 2 43-24 including 30 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Nikolay Marinov (178-94) who helped to win the game recording 32 points and 5 assists (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Forward Ivaylo Vuchkov (200-90) contributed with 18 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Four Balkan 2 players scored in double figures. Forward Martin Horozov (200-86) replied with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 16 rebounds and forward Dimitar Horozov (198-82) added 31 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Academik Plovdiv. Academik Plovdiv's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Newly promoted Balkan 2 maintains fifth position with 5-4 record. Academik Plovdiv at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the third place with three games lost. They share the position with NSA. Balkan 2 are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Academic Blagoevgrad (#11) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Academik Plovdiv will play against Cherno More U18 (#6) in Varna and is hoping to win this game.
