Regular Season Round 12: Mersin - Ceyhan Bld 61-66

Date: January 9, 2011
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 8th ranked Mersin (5-7) was defeated at home by ninth ranked Ceyhan Bld (5-7) 66-61 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 66-61. Ceyhan Bld dominated on the defensive end, holding Mersin to just 7 points in second quarter. The best player for the winners was American power forward Monique Coker (188-82, college: ODU) who scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. Nigerian center Aisha Mohammed (191-85, college: Virginia, agency: LBM Management) chipped in 7 points and 13 rebounds. Ceyhan Bld's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Erlana Larkins (185-86, college: N.Carolina, agency: 540 Sports) who recorded a double-double by scoring 16 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists and her fellow American import guard Scholanda Robinson (178-83, college: LSU) added 12 points and 10 rebounds respectively. Ceyhan Bld moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Mersin and Samsun. Ceyhan Bld will meet at home bottom-ranked Burhaniye Bld (#12) in the next round where they are favorite. Mersin will play against the league's second-placed Galatasaray (#2) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
