There was an upset when higher ranked Hertener Loewen (11-5) was defeated at home by ninth ranked Spot Up Medien Baskets (6-10) 94-84 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Spot Up Medien Baskets. Hertener Loewen managed to win third quarter 23-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Spot Up Medien Baskets won last quarter 35-26. Spot Up Medien Baskets outrebounded Hertener Loewen 41-26 including 26 on the defensive glass. It was a great shooting night for Spot Up Medien Baskets especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.0 percentage. Worth to mention a great performance of center Daniel Theis (205-92) who helped to win the game recording 22 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and Nigerian guard Nnamdi Nnadili (185-86, college: Mercyhurst) who added 20 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Spot Up Medien Baskets' coach Liviu Calin used entire bench saving starting five for next games. At the losing side American swingman Blake Schultz (191-87, college: Williams) responded with 20 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists and power forward Christoph Hackenesch (204-86) scored 15 points and 8 rebounds. Five Spot Up Medien Baskets and four Hertener Loewen players scored in double figures. Spot Up Medien Baskets moved-up to eighth place in Group North, which they share with Rist-Wedel and Bayer Giants. Loser Hertener Loewen keeps the fourth position with five games lost. Spot Up Medien Baskets will face Bayer Giants (#10) in Leverkusen in the next round. Hertener Loewen will play on the road against SC Rist Wedel (#8).
