Regular Season Round 16: Konstanz - Giessen 67-69

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both eleventh ranked Giessen Pointers and 12th ranked Baskets Konstanz had identical 3-12 record. But Baskets Konstanz was not able to use a home court advantage and was edged by the opponent from Giessen 69-67 on Sunday night. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 22-12. But Baskets Konstanz won second period 16-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Giessen Pointers won last quarter 19-19. Baskets Konstanz was plagued by 31 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Felix Rotaru (200-79) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds and Jamaican-American forward Kimmani Barrett (198-87, college: La Salle) who added 14 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Barrett is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Giessen Pointers players scored in double figures. Giessen Pointers' coach Dejan Kostic used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side forward Frederik Henningsen (197-88) responded with 16 points and 4 assists and American guard Michael Lay (175-83, college: Concordia (OR)) scored 12 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Giessen Pointers (4-12) moved-up to ninth place in Group South, which they share with Schwenningen and Dt.Bank SKY II. Baskets Konstanz at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the twelfth position with 13 games lost. Giessen Pointers will face BV Villingen-Schwenningen (#11) at home in the next round. Baskets Konstanz will play against TSV Troester in Breitenguessbach.
