Regular Season Round 18: Neptunas - Zalgiris 83-98

Undefeated leader Zalgiris delivered the thirteenth consecutive win on Saturday night. This time they beat 10th ranked Neptunas (4-8) 98-83 in Klaipeda. The game was mostly controlled by Zalgiris. Neptunas managed to win second period 23-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Zalgiris dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Neptunas' 38 and made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. Zalgiris had a 31-17 advantage in offensive rebounds. 26 personal fouls committed by Neptunas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American guard DeJuan Collins (188-76, college: Tuskegee) who scored 16 points and 5 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). International guard Martynas Pocius (196-86, college: Duke, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 13 points and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American center Luke Bonner (213-85, college: Massachusetts) who recorded 15 points and 9 rebounds and guard Martynas Mazeika (190-85, agency: Limelight Hoops) added 20 points respectively. Four Zalgiris and five Neptunas players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Zalgiris (13-0) have an impressive 13-game winning streak. They maintain first position with a perfect record of 13 victories in a row. Neptunas at the other side dropped to the eleventh place with eight games lost. Zalgiris are looking forward to face Techasas (#5) in Panevezys in the next round. Neptunas will play on the road against Nevezis (#7) in Kedainiai and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
