Regular Season Round 12: Illiabum - Sampaense 83-93

There was no surprise in Ilhavo where 10th ranked Illiabum (4-8) was defeated by eighth ranked Sampaense (6-6) 93-83 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Sampaense. Illiabum managed to win fourth quarter 29-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Sampaense outrebounded Illiabum 37-26 including a 29-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Illiabum was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American forward Almaad Jackson (210-85, college: Tex.A&M-Comm.) who had a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 rebounds. The other American import swingman Riley Luettgerodt (196-85, college: Hawaii) chipped in a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds. Luettgerodt is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the other side the best for losing team was American power forward Emanuel Willis (205-84, college: Houston Baptist) who recorded 20 points and 5 rebounds and guard Carlos Barroca (182-84) added 16 points respectively. Four Sampaense and five Illiabum players scored in double figures. Sampaense moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Ginasio. Loser Illiabum dropped to the ninth position with eight games lost. Sampaense will face CAB (#8) in Funchal in the next round. Illiabum will play on the road against Penafiel in Penafiel and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
