Important game to mention about took place in Funchal. Second ranked Benfica (9-3) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging 7th ranked CAB (5-7) 68-66 on Saturday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. It looked good early as CAB took an 8-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Benfica took control and eventually winning the game that evening by 2 points. They outrebounded CAB 36-23 including 26 on the defensive glass. It was a good game for the former international forward Sergio Ramos (200-76) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds. The former international guard Miguel Minhava (197-83) contributed with 8 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Benfica's coach Henrique Vieira allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American forward Frederick Gentry (201-77, college: McNeese St., agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) replied with 23 points and 5 rebounds and his fellow American import guard Nathan Menefee (182-85, college: Evergreen St.) added 12 points and 4 assists in the effort for CAB. Defending champion maintains second position with 9-3 record having just two points less than leader Porto Ferpinta. CAB at the other side dropped to the eighth place with seven games lost. Benfica will play against Vitoria SC (#4) in Guimaraes in the next round. CAB will play on the road against Sampaense (#6) in Coimbra and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
