There was a minor upset in Lviv where 10th ranked DniproAzot (10-16) was defeated by twelfth ranked Halychyna (8-20) 74-69 on Saturday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 21-12. But DniproAzot won third quarter 24-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Halychyna made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. They also forced 20 DniproAzot turnovers and outrebounded them 38-24 including a 27-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Halychyna looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American forward Alan Wiggins (206-84, college: USF) stepped up and scored 20 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import guard Todd Abernethy (185-84, college: Mississippi) chipped in 11 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Halychyna's coach Andrei Podkovyrov used entire bench in such tough game. American guard Lamar Karim (178-83, college: So.Poly State, agency: Interperformances) responded with 22 points and Latvian guard Rinalds Sirsnins (186-85, agency: Promotex) scored 15 points (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Halychyna maintains twelfth place with 8-20 record. Loser DniproAzot keeps the tenth position with 16 games lost. Halychyna will face higher ranked Dnipro (#6) in Dnepropetrovsk in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
