There was no surprise when 15th ranked Brasov (1-18) was outplayed at home by second ranked Ploiesti (16-3) 98-61 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Ploiesti. Brasov managed to win fourth quarter 20-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Ploiesti dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Brasov's 46. Ploiesti forced 33 Brasov turnovers and outrebounded them 34-22 including 23 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was American guard Jason Westrol (191-88, college: Bentley, agency: Hart Sports Mngm) who scored 14 points and 8 assists. His fellow American import guard Doneal Mack (196-87, college: Memphis) chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds. Five Ploiesti players scored in double figures. Montenegrin center Zeljko Bubanja (210-73) produced 13 points and swingman Radu Paliciuc (198-88) added 10 points respectively for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Ploiesti. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader. Brasov lost their eighth game in a row. They keep the fifteenth place with 18 games lost. They share the position with Miercurea. Ploiesti will meet at home U-Mobitelco (#4) in the next round. Brasov will play against Timisoara (#12).
