Leader Fenerbahce delivered the twelfth victory on Saturday night. This time they crushed 6th ranked Tarsus Bld (7-6) 88-67 in Mersin. The game was mostly controlled by Fenerbahce. Tarsus Bld managed to win third quarter 23-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Fenerbahce dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Tarsus Bld's 52. They outrebounded Tarsus Bld 41-25 including a 32-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Fenerbahce looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 5 passes made by Tarsus Bld's players. International center Nevriye Yilmaz (195-80) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists (perfect from the field making all fourteen shots !!!) for the winners and Latvian guard Anete Jekabsone-Zogota (177-83) chipped in 14 points. Fenerbahce's coach Laszlo Ratgeber felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American power forward Plenette Pierson (188-81, college: Texas Tech) responded with 17 points and 6 rebounds and the other American import forward Shyra Ely (188-83, college: Tennessee, agency: Merit Sports) scored 12 points and 5 rebounds. The victory was the twelfth consecutive win for Fenerbahce. Defending champion maintains first place with 12-1 record, which they share with Galatasaray. Loser Tarsus Bld dropped to the fifth position with six games lost. They share it with Botas. Fenerbahce will meet at home Samsun (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Tarsus Bld will play against TED Kayseri and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
