Regular Season Round 17: Schwelm - Wulfen 89-85

Rather expected game when 5th ranked BSV Wulfen (9-8) was defeated on the road by third ranked SG Schwelmer Baskets (13-4) 89-85 on Sunday. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. American guard Jason Holmes (191-86, college: Le Moyne) stepped up and scored 22 points and 7 assists for the winners and naturalized American forward Kristofer Speier (206-81, college: Lewis-Clark) chipped in 20 points and 8 rebounds. American forward Joseph Henley (196-85, college: Sacred Heart) responded with 24 points and 7 rebounds and the other American import guard Steve Briggs (178-85, college: Okla.Wesleyan) scored 15 points. Five BSV Wulfen players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. SG Schwelmer Baskets has a solid series of four victories in a row. They keep a position of Group North leader, which they share with Vechta and Stahnsdorf. BSV Wulfen at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the fifth place with eight games lost. SG Schwelmer Baskets will face Bayer Giants (#10) in Leverkusen in the next round and are hoping to win another game. BSV Wulfen will play at home against Herzoege Wolfenbuettel (#11).
