Regular Season Round 18: Chemnitz - Crailsheim 57-52

Rather expected game when 6th ranked Crailsheim Merlins (10-8) were defeated on the road by third ranked BV Chemnitz 99 (13-5) 57-52 on Friday. The hosts trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 57-52. The best player for the winners was American guard Gary Johnson (188-82, college: Cent.Florida) who scored 22 points and 4 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). The other American import center Donald Lawson (208-88, college: W.Michigan) chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Kameron Gray (186-82, college: Oklahoma City) who recorded 12 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists and guard Kristof Schwarz (186-87) added 12 points respectively. Crailsheim Merlins' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. BV Chemnitz 99 have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 13-5 record having four points less than leader B.Muenchen. Loser Crailsheim Merlins dropped to the seventh place with eight games lost. BV Chemnitz 99 will face BG Karlsruhe (#8) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Crailsheim Merlins will play against the league's second-placed s Oliver Baskets in Wuerzburg.
