Regular Season Round 29: Zalgiris-Sabonio - Pieno Zvaigzdes 67-87

NKL top team - Pieno Zvaigzdes (26-1) had no problems winning another game on Friday. This time they crushed sixth ranked Zalgiris-Sabonio (17-10) in Kaunas 87-67. The game was mostly controlled by Pieno Zvaigzdes. Zalgiris-Sabonio managed to win third quarter 20-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Pieno Zvaigzdes dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Zalgiris-Sabonio's 30. Forward Darius Griskenas (194-84) stepped up and scored 19 points for the winners and American guard Zam Fredrick (183-86, college: S.Carolina) chipped in 14 points and 4 assists. Center Gediminas Zyle (209-88) responded with 17 points and 5 rebounds and forward Zygimantas Skucas (200-92) scored 13 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Pieno Zvaigzdes have an impressive series of eighteen victories in a row. They maintain first place with 26-1 record. Zalgiris-Sabonio at the other side dropped to the fifth position with ten games lost. They share it with LKKA-Atletas. Pieno Zvaigzdes are looking forward to face LKKA-Atletas (#5) in Kaunas in the next round. Zalgiris-Sabonio will play on the road against Delikatesas in Joniskis and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
