Regular Season Round 19: Perlas - Rudupis 79-82

Ninth-ranked Perlas (5-10) used its home court advantage to challenge third ranked Rudupis (10-4) in Vilnius on Saturday. The visitors from Prienai managed to secure only three-point victory 82-79. However their fans expected much easier game. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Perlas. Perlas was trailing by 5 points at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 21-15 charge of Rudupis, which allowed them to win the game. They dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Perlas' 32. It was an exceptional evening for the former international guard Evaldas Dainys (180-82, college: Cent.Florida CC) who led the winners and scored 22 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Forward Povilas Butkevicius (201-87) accounted for 17 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side. Forward Saulius Kulvietis (203-91) came up with 17 points and 8 rebounds and forward Arvydas Siksnius (196-87, college: Weatherford JC) added 25 points respectively for Perlas in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Perlas' coach Roberts Stelmahers tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Rudupis maintains third place with 10-4 record having four points less than leader Zalgiris. Loser Perlas dropped to the tenth position with ten games lost. They share it with Aiscai Kaunas. Rudupis will meet at home Techasas (#6) in the next round. Perlas' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Vilnius to the arena Sakalai.
