There was no surprise when 16th ranked Cuxhaven BasCats (3-15) were defeated on the road by tenth ranked USC Heidelberg (8-10) 84-76 on Sunday. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. USC Heidelberg outrebounded Cuxhaven BasCats 45-28 including a 31-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Cuxhaven BasCats were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was the former international power forward Bjorn Schoo (213-81, college: Northern St., agency: Court Side) who had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 20 rebounds. American swingman Greg Baker (194-84, college: Adams St.) chipped in 14 points and 5 rebounds. Four USC Heidelberg players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Deilvez Yearby (198-87, college: IPFW) who recorded 18 points and 7 rebounds and his fellow American import guard Aaron Cook (186-83, college: Hartford) added 17 points and 4 assists respectively. USC Heidelberg moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Webmoebel. Cuxhaven BasCats lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 15 games lost. USC Heidelberg will face Webmoebel Baskets (#10) in Paderborn in the next round. Cuxhaven BasCats will play at home against Science City Jena (#12).
