Regular Season Round 13: Barreirense - Ovarense 86-71
Date: January 30, 2011
Bottom-ranked Barreirense managed to get a second victory, breaking the series of five consecutive loses. This time they won against fourth-ranked Ovarense in Barreiro 86-71. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 15-point difference suggests that Barreirense is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Ovarense. The hosts were ahead by 1 point but lost the second period ending it with a 2-point deficit before their 31-14 run, which allowed them to win the game. Barreirense forced 20 Ovarense turnovers. American forward Tyrone Curnell (201-88, college: Valdosta St., agency: Strategic Sports) stepped up and scored 29 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for the winners and his fellow American import guard Garrison Johnson (196-88, college: Jackson St., agency: Strategic Sports) chipped in 23 points and 5 rebounds. Barreirense's coach Arturo Alvarez used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side the former international center Nuno Cortez (205-82) responded with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 13 rebounds and the former international guard Nuno Manarte (184-75) scored 14 points and 8 assists. Four Ovarense players scored in double figures. Barreirense maintains twelfth place with 2-11 record. Ovarense at the other side keeps the fourth position with six games lost. They share it with Vitoria SC. Barreirense will play against league's leader FC Porto Ferpinta on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Ovarense will play against Academica having rather not much hope for a victory.
