Bottom-ranked Cuxhaven BasCats managed to get a fourth victory, breaking the series of three consecutive loses on Saturday night. This time they won against twelfth-ranked Science City Jena 70-61. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Science City Jena won third quarter 19-10. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Science City Jena 44-30 including 29 on the defensive glass. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Deilvez Yearby (198-87, college: IPFW) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds. His fellow American import guard Aaron Cook (186-83, college: Hartford) accounted for 17 points for the winning side. Cuxhaven BasCats' coach Vilmantas Matkevicius used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American guard Larry Cunningham (190-85, college: Cal-Riverside, agency: Limelight Hoops) came up with 13 points and 6 rebounds and power forward Christoph Roquette (203-82) added 14 points respectively for Science City Jena in the defeat. Cuxhaven BasCats maintains sixteenth place with 4-15 record. Science City Jena lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the twelfth position with 13 games lost. They share it with Dragons. Cuxhaven BasCats will meet higher ranked Hannover Tigers (#11) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Science City Jena will play against Webmoebel Baskets in Paderborn and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
