No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Alges (11-7) crushed bottom-ranked Uniao Micaelense (1-18) in Ponta Delgada 75-40 on Sunday. The game without a history. Alges led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Uniao Micaelense to just 7 points in fourth quarter. Alges dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Uniao Micaelense's 24. Alges forced 19 Uniao Micaelense turnovers and outrebounded them 41-29 including 32 on the defensive glass. The winners were led by Croatian forward Matea Vrdoljak (186-85, agency: Promotex) who scored that evening 24 points and 4 steals and American forward Angelica Robinson (196-87, college: Georgia) supported her with 12 points and 7 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Four Alges players scored in double figures. Even 7 points and 11 rebounds by American power forward Ree Browne (186-84, college: Cal.St.-Dominguez H.) did not help to save the game for Uniao Micaelense. Brazilian center Andrea Santos (-71) added 11 points and 5 rebounds for the hosts. Alges have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 11-7 record. Uniao Micaelense lost sixth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 18 lost games. Alges will meet at home Barcelos (#10) in the next round where they are favorite. Uniao Micaelense will play against the league's second-placed CAB Madeira in Funchal.
