Regular Season Round 33: Azovmash - Khimik 74-62
Date: February 6, 2011
Very expected game in Mariupol where 12th ranked Khimik (10-21) was defeated by fourth ranked Azovmash (19-12) 74-62 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Azovmash. Khimik was better in second period 17-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Azovmash made 11 blocks. The best player for the winners was American guard Ramel Curry (191-80, college: CSU Bakersfield) who scored 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. His fellow American import forward Fred House (195-78, college: S.Utah, agency: Lanshire Group) chipped in 17 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international swingman Alexander Kolchenko (198-88) who recorded 16 points and 5 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and Bosnian forward Toni Bizaca (202-82) added 10 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Khimik's coach Zoran Martic gave the chance to play for ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Defending champion moved-up to third place. Loser Khimik keeps the twelfth position with 21 games lost. Azovmash will have a break next round. Khimik will play at home against Hoverla (#4) in Frankivsk.
