Very predictable result in Angra where second ranked Benfica (11-3) defeated 11th ranked Lusitania (4-10) 90-85 on Sunday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 22-12. But Lusitania won second period 24-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Benfica made 22-of-26 free shots (84.6 percent) during the game. Benfica outrebounded Lusitania 39-24 including 17 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Sergio Ramos (200-76) who scored 20 points and 5 rebounds. The former international guard Miguel Minhava (197-83) chipped in 10 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Guard Daniel Monteiro (182-82) produced a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 assists and American guard Terrence Hundley (191-85, college: W.Georgia) added 20 points and 5 assists respectively for the hosts. Four Benfica and five Lusitania players scored in double figures. Benfica have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains second position with 11-3 record having just two points less than leader Porto Ferpinta. Newly promoted Lusitania keeps the eleventh place with ten games lost. Benfica will meet at home league's leader FC Porto Ferpinta in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Lusitania will play against Sampaense (#7) in Coimbra and hope to secure a win.
