Regular Season Round 20: Lietuvos rytas - Neptunas 100-65

Not a big story in a game in Vilnius where 8th ranked Neptunas (5-9) was rolled over by second ranked Lietuvos Rytas (13-2) 100-65. The game without a history. Lietuvos Rytas led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 19-of-22 charity shots (86.4 percent) during the game. Lietuvos Rytas had a 31-18 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Lietuvos Rytas especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.4 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Neptunas' players. They brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. Center Jonas Valanciunas (210-92) orchestrated the victory by scoring 19 points (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!). International guard Martynas Gecevicius (193-88) contributed with 12 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Five Lietuvos Rytas players scored in double figures. The former international forward Valdas Vasylius (203-83, college: ODU) replied with 13 points and 7 rebounds and swingman Mantas Ruikis (198-85) added 8 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Neptunas. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Lietuvos Rytas have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains second position with 13-2 record having just two points less than leader Zalgiris. Neptunas at the other side dropped to the ninth place with nine games lost. Lietuvos Rytas' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Vilnius Sakalai.
