Regular Season Round 21: Utena - Ruta Siauliai 80-61

Bottom-ranked Utena managed to get the second consecutive victory on Wednesday night. This time newly promoted Utena outleveled sixth-ranked Ruta Siauliai 80-61. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 19-point difference suggests that Utena is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. The game was mostly controlled by Utena. Ruta Siauliai managed to win third quarter 27-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Utena forced 21 Ruta Siauliai turnovers. Strangely Ruta Siauliai outrebounded Utena 41-29 including 32 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was center Giedre Kirstukaite (190-86) who had a double-double by scoring 14 points and 14 rebounds. Guard Agne Ziegyte (175-86) chipped in 19 points, 7 assists and 6 steals. Five Utena players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Sandra Baliutaviciute (182-81) who recorded a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds and forward Aiste Tamutyte (179-87) added 10 points and 11 rebounds respectively. Utena (4-14) moved-up to sixth place, which they share with defeated Ruta Siauliai. Utena will meet at home league's second-placed Lemminkainen in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Ruta Siauliai will play against LKKA-Aistes (#4) in Kaunas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
