Regular Season Round 33: LKKA-Atletas - Zalgiris-Sabonio 61-82

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Kaunas: Zalgiris-Sabonio (#5) and LKKA-Atletas (#6). LKKA-Atletas was crushed at home by 21 points 61-82 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. The game was mostly controlled by Zalgiris-Sabonio. LKKA-Atletas managed to win second period 21-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Zalgiris-Sabonio dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to LKKA-Atletas' 36. They outrebounded LKKA-Atletas 47-30 including a 29-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was swingman Paulius Sorokas (198-92) who scored 16 points and 4 assists. Forward Tauras Jogela (200-93) chipped in 20 points. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Vidmantas Sragauskis (200-86) who recorded 20 points and guard Sarunas Vingelis (192-89) added 10 points respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Zalgiris-Sabonio maintains fifth place with 19-12 record. LKKA-Atletas lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with 14 games lost. They share it with Nafta Universitetas. Zalgiris-Sabonio are looking forward to face league's leader Pieno Zvaigzdes in Pasvalys in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. LKKA-Atletas will play on the road against Nafta Universitetas (#7) in Klaipeda and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
