Regular Season Round 34: Zalgiris-Sabonio - Pieno Zvaigzdes 68-85

NKL top team - Pieno Zvaigzdes (31-1) had no problems winning another game. This time they beat fifth ranked Zalgiris-Sabonio (19-13) in Kaunas 85-68. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Zalgiris-Sabonio. It looked good early as Zalgiris-Sabonio took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Pieno Zvaigzdes had a 22-8 second period charge getting the lead and Zalgiris-Sabonio was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 68-85. Pieno Zvaigzdes shot the lights out from three nailing 12 long-distance shots on high 63.2 percentage. American guard Darrick Leonard (188-84, college: Aurora) fired 16 points and 4 assists for the winners. The other American import guard Zam Fredrick (183-86, college: S.Carolina) chipped in 13 points. Four Pieno Zvaigzdes players scored in double figures. Center Gediminas Zyle (209-88) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds and swingman Paulius Sorokas (198-92) added 13 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Pieno Zvaigzdes have an impressive 23-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 31-1 record. Zalgiris-Sabonio at the other side keeps the fifth place with 13 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
