Very expected game when 9th ranked Academico (5-13) was smashed on the road by third ranked AD Vagos (14-3) 70-47 on Saturday. The game without a history. AD Vagos led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Academico to just 7 points in second quarter. AD Vagos dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Academico's 16. AD Vagos forced 19 Academico turnovers and outrebounded them 44-27 including a 28-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The winners were led by Nigerian-American guard Chineze Nwagbo (183-82, college: Syracuse) who scored that evening 23 points and 6 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) and Brazilian forward Lilian Lopes (184-79) supported her with 18 points. Even 12 points and 6 rebounds by American forward Lauren Gregory (185, college: Vanguard) did not help to save the game for Academico. Swingman Ana Morais (165-90) added 11 points for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. AD Vagos have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains third position with 14-3 record behind leader Quinta. Academico lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the ninth place with 13 games lost. AD Vagos will meet at home league's leader Quinta in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Academico will play against GDESSA (#8) in Barreiro and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
