Regular Season Round 15: Sampaense - Lusitania 102-95

There was no surprise in Coimbra where 11th ranked Lusitania (4-11) was defeated by seventh ranked Sampaense (7-8) 102-95 on Sunday. Lusitania trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 29-25 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 95-102 at the end of the game. Sampaense shot 60.9 percent from the field. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for American swingman Riley Luettgerodt (196-85, college: Hawaii) who led his team to a victory scoring 33 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds. Forward Pedro Azevedo (193-81) helped adding 21 points and 5 assists. Worth to mention Luettgerodt played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped get the job in pro basketball. The best for the losing side was American power forward James Robert (203-86, college: Dowling) with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 15 rebounds and the other American import guard Terrence Hundley (191-85, college: W.Georgia) scored 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Sampaense and five Lusitania players scored in double figures. Sampaense moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Ginasio and Penafiel. Lusitania lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the eleventh position with 11 games lost. Sampaense will meet league's leader FC Porto Ferpinta on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Lusitania will play against Penafiel (#7) in Penafiel and hope to secure a win.
