Important game to mention about took place in Pleven. Eighth ranked Spartak (4-15) saved a 2-point victory at home edging higher ranked Balkan (11-8) 95-93 on Sunday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Balkan. Balkan was tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. Spartak shot 30 for 43 from the free-throw line, while Balkan only scored nine points from the stripe. Spartak forced 22 Balkan turnovers. Balkan was plagued by 32 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for the former international forward Ilia Stankov (198-76) who led his team to a victory with 21 points and 7 rebounds. Forward Todor Todorov (198-82) contributed with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Five Spartak players scored in double figures. Guard Stanimir Marinov (191-91) replied with 26 points, 5 assists and 4 steals and the former international power forward Georgi Davidov (205-76) added 28 points in the effort for Balkan. Spartak moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Chernomorets. Balkan at the other side keeps the third position with eight games lost. Spartak will play against higher ranked Rilski Sportist (#4) in Samokov in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Balkan will play at home against the league's second-placed Levski where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
