The game between closely ranked teams ended with 9th ranked Academico's (5-14) road loss to eighth ranked GDESSA (7-12) in Barreiro 58-73. The game was mostly controlled by GDESSA. Academico was better in fourth quarter 17-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. GDESSA dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Academico's 16. They outrebounded Academico 35-24 including 25 on the defensive glass. Canadian swingman Kendel Ross (185-88, college: Dayton) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and international center Luiana Livulo (187-91) chipped in 15 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). The best for the losing side was American guard Jessica Richter (178, college: Vanguard) with 14 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists and the other American import forward Lauren Gregory (185, college: Vanguard) scored 13 points (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. GDESSA maintains eighth place with 7-12 record. Academico lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the ninth position with 14 games lost. GDESSA will play against Barcelos (#10) at home in the next round. Academico will play against Alges and hopes to get back on the winning track.
