Regular Season Round 19: Galatasaray - Samsun 79-73

Date: February 19, 2011
The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Galatasaray as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Galatasaray defeated 8th ranked Samsun in Istanbul 79-73. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Samsun won third quarter 19-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a great evening for American guard Seimone Augustus (185-84, college: LSU) who led her team to a victory scoring 23 points. Her fellow American import center Sylvia Fowles (198-85, college: LSU) helped adding 16 points and 10 rebounds. Galatasaray's coach Ceyhun Yildizoglu used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American center Jessica Adair (193-86, college: George Washington) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds and Rwandan-American center Tatum Brown (193-78, college: Arizona) scored 12 points and 9 rebounds. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Fenerbahce. Samsun at the other side keeps the eighth place with 12 games lost. Samsun will play next round against Alanya BLD trying to get back on the winning streak. Galatasaray will try to continue on its current victory against tenth ranked Istanbul Universitesi in Istanbul.
