Regular Season Round 18: Besiktas - Aliaga 98-74
Date: February 20, 2011
Very expected game in Istanbul where 14th ranked Aliaga (5-13) was rolled over by sixth ranked Besiktas (11-7) 98-74. It looked good early as Aliaga took an 6-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Besiktas had a 30-19 second period charge getting the lead and Aliaga was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 74-98. Besiktas made 21-of-22 charity shots (95.5 percent) during the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. American guard Mire Chatman (187-78, college: UTPA, agency: Higher Vision Sports) notched 20 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists to lead the effort and the former international forward Bekir Yarangume (198-79) supported him with 18 points. Five Besiktas players scored in double figures. Even 28 points and 6 rebounds by Latvian center Kaspars Kambala (206-78, college: UNLV, agency: Alti Sport) did not help to save the game for Aliaga. American swingman Jarvis Hayes (201-81, college: Georgia) added 9 points and 4 assists. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Besiktas moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Karsiyaka. Aliaga lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourteenth position with 13 games lost. Besiktas' next round opponent will be Bornova (#11) on the road where they are favorite. Aliaga will play against Olin Edirne.
