Regular Season Round 15: Povoa - Maia Basket 68-64

There was no surprise when 10th ranked Maia Basket (4-11) was defeated on the road by seventh ranked Povoa (7-8) 68-64 on Sunday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 22-13. But Maia Basket won third quarter 18-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Povoa won last quarter 25-23. They also forced 24 Maia Basket turnovers and outrebounded Maia Basket 44-33 including 18 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was Nigerian forward George Ehiagwina (206-89) who had a double-double by scoring 11 points, 17 rebounds and 4 blocks. Forward Andre Silva (193-89) chipped in 18 points. Four Povoa players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Joao Diamantino (201-85) who recorded 20 points and 9 rebounds and guard Rui Monteiro (185-77) added 18 points respectively. Povoa maintains seventh place with 7-8 record. Loser Maia Basket keeps the tenth position with 11 games lost. Povoa will face higher ranked Sangalhos (#4) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Maia Basket will play against Terceira Basket (#6) in Angra Heroismo.
