Regular Season Round 16: Galitos-Tley - Alges 86-91 OT

The most important game in the last round took place in Barreiro between third ranked Galitos FC (11-5) and tenth ranked Alges (5-11) on Saturday night. Galitos FC was defeated by Alges in a tough game at home in overtime86-91. The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 6-point lead at the halftime then Galitos FC managed to tie the game at the end of regular time. However that was Alges who were better in overtime eventually winning that period 16-11. They made 21-of-25 free shots (84.0 percent) during the game. Alges forced 21 Galitos FC turnovers and outrebounded them 36-24 including 23 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Silvester Spicer (198-86, college: Rogers St.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 25 points and 12 rebounds. Cape Verdean forward Fidel Mendonca (191-84) contributed with 25 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals for the winners. Guard Antonio Pires (185-86) replied with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 11 assists and American swingman Malcolm Thomas (196-85, college: Widener) added 19 points in the effort for Galitos FC. Five Alges and four Galitos FC players scored in double figures. Alges moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Guifoes. Galitos FC at the other side keeps the third position with five games lost. Alges is looking forward to face bottom-ranked Seixal (#12) on the road in the next round. Galitos FC will play against the league's second-placed Fisica (#2) having rather not much hope for a victory.
