Very expected game when 13th ranked Tofas (6-13) lost to fourth ranked Efes Pilsen (14-5) in Istanbul 48-65. It looked good early as Tofas took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Efes Pilsen had a 14-10 second period charge getting the lead and Tofas was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 48-65. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Tofas to just 6 points in fourth quarter. Efes Pilsen made 22-of-27 charity shots (81.5 percent) during the game. 26 personal fouls committed by Tofas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. International power forward Kerem Gonlum (208-77) fired a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Serbian guard Igor Rakocevic (191-78) chipped in 11 points and 7 rebounds. Efes Pilsen's coach Velimir Perasovic allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Forward Ilkan Karaman (205-90) produced 8 points and 9 rebounds and American swingman Austin Nichols (198-82, college: Humboldt St.) added 12 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Efes Pilsen maintains fourth place with 14-5 record. Tofas at the other side dropped to the twelfth position with 13 games lost. Efes Pilsen's next round opponent will be league's second-placed Galatasaray in Istanbul and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Tofas will play at home against Mersin (#15) in Akdeniz.
