Regular Season Round 39: Zalgiris-Sabonio - Radviliskis 61-60

The most exciting game of round 39 in the NKL took place in Kaunas. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 7th ranked Radviliskis (26-11) to first ranked Zalgiris-Sabonio (21-16) 61-60 on Friday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Radviliskis. The hosts trailed by 10 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 1-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 61-60. Zalgiris-Sabonio dominated on the defensive end, holding Radviliskis to just 7 points in second quarter. Zalgiris-Sabonio had a 33-22 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was swingman Paulius Sorokas (198-92) who scored 13 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Center Mindaugas Kupsas (215-91) chipped in 9 points and 11 rebounds. Zalgiris-Sabonio's coach Priit Vene used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Zilvinas Kuklierius (180-85) who recorded 17 points and guard Rytis Rauktys (187-84) added 13 points respectively. Despite that victory Zalgiris-Sabonio went down to fifth position due to points difference. Radviliskis at the other side dropped to the second place with 11 games lost. Zalgiris-Sabonio are looking forward to face higher ranked Mazeikiai (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Radviliskis will play against Nafta Universitetas in Klaipeda and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
