Regular Season Round 17: Guifoes - Sangalhos 70-62

An interesting game took place in Guifoes where 4th placed Sangalhos (10-7) were upseton the court of ninth ranked Guifoes (6-11) 70-62. It looked good early as Sangalhos took an 4-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Guifoes had a 22-10 second period charge getting the lead and Sangalhos were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 62-70. Guifoes dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Sangalhos' 22. Naturalized Cape Verdean forward Odair Conceicao (197-84) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 15 rebounds. Angolan forward Joao Gaspar (196-89) contributed with 14 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Swingman Joao Carmo (183-85) answered with 25 points and guard Andre Duarte (178-81) added 9 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Sangalhos. Newly promoted Guifoes maintains ninth place with 6-11 record, which they share with Alges. Sangalhos lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the sixth position with seven games lost. Guifoes' next round opponent will be higher ranked Terceira Basket (#4) in Angra Heroismo and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
