Regular Season Round 38: BC Odessa - Azovmash 84-75

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Azovmash (23-14) against ninth ranked BC Odessa (16-21) on Saturday night. Visiting Azovmash was defeated by BC Odessa in a tough game in Odessa 75-84. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 17-8. But Azovmash won second period 25-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Strangely Azovmash outrebounded BC Odessa 41-29 including 29 on the defensive glass. Azovmash was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. American guard Andrew Washington (191-84, college: Delaware) notched 19 points and 4 assists to lead the effort and the other American import forward John DeGroat (198-85, college: Pittsburgh) supported him with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Washington is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. BC Odessa's coach Oleg Yushkin allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 22 points and 9 rebounds by American guard Ramel Curry (191-80, college: CSU Bakersfield) did not help to save the game for Azovmash. Croatian power forward Drago Pasalic (208-84) added 16 points and 12 rebounds for the guests. BC Odessa maintains ninth position with 16-21 record. Defending champion Azovmash dropped to the fourth place with 14 games lost. BC Odessa will play against higher ranked Mykolaiv (#8) in Mykolaiv in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Azovmash will play on the road against Khimik (#12) in Yuzhny and hopes to get back on the winning track.
