Regular Season Round 24: Sakalai - Juventus 87-78

We should mention about the upset which took place in Vilnius, where higher ranked Juventus (11-8) lost to twelfth ranked Sakalai (6-12) in a road game 78-87 on Tuesday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Juventus won fourth quarter 20-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Sakalai looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Juventus' players. The best player for the winners was swingman Virginijus Sirvydis (196-73) who scored 16 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. The former international forward Aivaras Kiausas (199-80) chipped in 15 points and 7 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was center Vaidas Cepukaitis (207-89, agency: Interperformances) who recorded 13 points and 7 rebounds and the former international guard Gediminas Maceina (188-84) added 10 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Sakalai moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Naglis-Adakris. Juventus at the other side keeps the fourth position with eight games lost. Sakalai will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Juventus will play at home against Naglis-Adakris (#11) in Palanga and is hoping to win this game.
