Regular Season Round 24: Siauliai - LSU-Baltai 89-64
Date: March 9, 2011
Very expected game when 12th ranked Aiscai Kaunas (6-13) was rolled over on the road by sixth ranked Siauliai (10-7) 89-64 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Siauliai. Aiscai Kaunas managed to win second period 26-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Siauliai dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Aiscai Kaunas' 32. They outrebounded Aiscai Kaunas 40-23 including a 30-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Siauliai looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American center David Weaver (209-87, college: Wake Forest) who helped to win the game recording 19 points and 7 rebounds and the former international forward Mindaugas Zukauskas (201-75, agency: World Sport Agency) who added 8 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. Four Siauliai players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was the former international center Povilas Cukinas (210-83) with 19 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and the former international guard Vytenis Jasikevicius (187-85) scored 13 points. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Siauliai moved-up to fifth place. Aiscai Kaunas lost third consecutive game. They keep the twelfth position with 13 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
