There was no surprise in Istanbul where 9th ranked Trabzonspor (8-13) was defeated by fourth ranked Efes Pilsen (15-6) 89-77 on Friday. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Efes Pilsen looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The game was also dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was guard Marvis Thornton (194-77, college: St.John's) who scored 11 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Power forward Lawrence Roberts (205-82, college: Mississippi St.) chipped in 13 points and 7 rebounds. Five Efes Pilsen players scored in double figures. Efes Pilsen's coach Velimir Perasovic used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Ali Karadeniz (203-80, college: Arizona) who recorded 28 points and 7 rebounds and guard Alvin Snow (188-81, college: E.Washington) added 5 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists respectively. Efes Pilsen maintains fourth place with 15-6 record. Trabzonspor lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the ninth position with 13 games lost. Efes Pilsen will face Mersin (#15) in Akdeniz in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Trabzonspor will play at home against Besiktas (#5) in Istanbul.
