Very important is a home loss of third ranked Banvit (16-5) against sixth ranked Karsiyaka (14-7) on Sunday night. Host Banvit was defeated by Karsiyaka in a tough game in Balikesir 76-84. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Banvit. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Banvit won third quarter 24-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Serbian center Jovo Stanojevic (208-77, agency: Beo Basket) stepped up and scored 19 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and guard David Holston (170-86, college: Chicago St.) chipped in 12 points, 5 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals. Four Karsiyaka players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American guard Keith Simmons (196-85, college: Holy Cross, agency: Interperformances) with 23 points and 6 rebounds and American-Azerbaijan forward Charles Davis (202-84, college: Alabama) scored 17 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Banvit's coach Orhun Ene rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Karsiyaka. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Besiktas. Banvit at the other side keeps the third position with five games lost. Karsiyaka will meet at home Aliaga (#13) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Banvit will play against Tofas (#9) in Bursa and hope to secure a win.
