Regular Season Round 24: Hannover - Jena 88-78

There was no surprise when 13th ranked Science City Jena (7-17) was defeated on the road by tenth ranked Hannover Tigers (10-14) 88-78 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Hannover Tigers. Science City Jena was better in third quarter 24-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Hannover Tigers made 32-of-41 free shots (78.0 percent) during the game. They also forced 20 Science City Jena turnovers. Science City Jena was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was Canadian guard Stuart Turnbull (188-84) who scored 18 points. American forward Brad Byerson (201-85, college: Virginia Union) chipped in 13 points and 6 rebounds. Hannover Tigers' coach Michael Mai allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the other side the best for losing team was power forward Christoph Roquette (203-82) who recorded 19 points and 5 rebounds and American guard Melvin Hall (183-85, college: S.Indiana) added 18 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Hannover Tigers have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain tenth position with 10-14 record. Loser Science City Jena dropped to the bottom place with 17 games lost. Hannover Tigers will face higher ranked Saar-Pfalz Braves (#5) in Homburg in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Science City Jena will play at home against Dragons Rhoendorf (#14) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
