Regular Season Round 22: Istanbul Univ. - Mersin 82-74

There was a small surprise when tenth ranked Istanbul Universitesi (7-15) defeated at home 8th ranked Mersin (8-14) 82-74. It looked good early as Mersin took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Istanbul Universitesi had a 24-20 second period charge getting the lead and Mersin was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 74-82. It was a great shooting night for Istanbul Universitesi especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.9 percentage. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Matee Ajavon (173-86, college: Rutgers) who helped to win the game recording 30 points and 4 assists. International forward Bahar Yapar (179-89) contributed with 13 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. American forward Erlana Larkins (185-86, college: N.Carolina, agency: 540 Sports) replied with a double-double by scoring 11 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists and guard Tugce Inoentepe (173-87, agency: 1x1 Sports) added 17 points and 5 assists in the effort for Mersin. Four Mersin players scored in double figures. Istanbul Universitesi moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Ceyhan Bld. Mersin lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with 14 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
