There was a surprise result when thirteenth ranked Cuxhaven BasCats (8-17) beat at home higher ranked Kirchheim Knights (13-12) 81-68 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Cuxhaven BasCats. Kirchheim Knights was better in third quarter 25-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Cuxhaven BasCats won last quarter 23-12. Quite impressive performance for American guard Aaron Cook (186-83, college: Hartford) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 assists. His fellow American import forward Deilvez Yearby (198-87, college: IPFW) contributed with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Naturalized American power forward Ryan De Michael (205-77, college: Tennessee-Martin) answered with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds and American forward Marcus Smallwood (198-82, college: N.Illinois, agency: Court Side) added 14 points and 12 rebounds in the effort for Kirchheim Knights. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Cuxhaven BasCats maintains thirteenth place with 8-17 record, which they share with ETB Wohnbau and Jena. Kirchheim Knights lost their third game in a row. They keep the seventh position with 12 games lost. Cuxhaven BasCats will face higher ranked Crailsheim Merlins (#6) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
