Regular Season Round 23: Besiktas - Olin Edirne 83-93

There was a minor upset in Istanbul where 5th ranked Besiktas (15-8) was defeated by seventh ranked Olin Edirne (14-9) 93-83 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 9 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 10 points. Olin Edirne made 28-of-29 free shots (96.6 percent) during the game. Besiktas was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for FYR Macedonian center Predrag Samardjiski (214-86, agency: Interperformances) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Lithuanian guard Renaldas Seibutis (196-85) helped adding 27 points and 4 assists (was perfect 14-for-14 from the free throw line !!!). Polish forward Michal Ignerski (207-80, college: Mississippi St., agency: Stanley International) responded with 25 points and American guard Mire Chatman (187-78, college: UTPA, agency: Higher Vision Sports) scored 11 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Newly promoted Olin Edirne maintains seventh place with 14-9 record. Loser Besiktas keeps the fifth position with eight games lost. Olin Edirne will face Trabzonspor (#12) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Besiktas will play against Antalya (#8).
