Regular Season Round 20: CAB Madeira - Vitoria SC 59-62

The most exciting game of round 20 in the LPB took place in Funchal. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 6th ranked CAB (9-11) to fifth ranked Vitoria SC (11-9) 62-59 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of CAB. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 22-15. But CAB won second period 17-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Vitoria SC dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to CAB's 24. They outrebounded CAB 43-32 including a 34-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international swingman Paulo Cunha (199-80) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds and center Paulo Diamantino (203-85) who added 12 points and 14 rebounds during the contest. The former international guard Jaime Silva (187-80) responded with 9 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals and American forward Frederick Gentry (201-77, college: McNeese St., agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) scored 11 points and 7 rebounds. Vitoria SC moved-up to fourth place. CAB at the other side dropped to the seventh position with 11 games lost. Vitoria SC are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Barreirense (#12) in Barreiro in the next round and are hoping to win another game. CAB will play at home against Lusitania (#10) in Angra and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
