The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Gmunden Swans (23-8) at the home court on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by third ranked Oberwart Gunners (20-11) 62-57. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 17-9. But Gmunden Swans won second period 21-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Oberwart Gunners won last quarter 16-13. It was a good game for American guard David Gonzalvez (193-87, college: Richmond) who led his team to a victory with 15 points and 4 assists. Naturalized American power forward Jason Johnson (202-77, college: Tennessee St.) contributed with 9 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. American forward Dan Oppland (203-84, college: Valparaiso, agency: SportsTalent) answered with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds and the former international guard Deteri Mayes (189-74, college: Murray St., agency: Court Side) added 17 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Gmunden Swans. Oberwart Gunners maintains third place in Bundesliga with 20-11 record having just -2 point less than leader Wels. Defending champion Gmunden Swans still keep top position with eight games lost. Oberwart Gunners are looking forward to face Kapfenberg Bulls (#6) at home in the next round. Gmunden Swans will play against Furstenfeld Panthers (#4) and are hoping to win this game.
