Regular Season Round 21: Academik PL - Balkan 2 104-58

There was no surprise when 7th ranked Balkan 2 (8-10) was crushed on the road by second ranked Academik Plovdiv (13-4) 104-58 on Saturday. The game without a history. Academik Plovdiv led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Balkan 2's 42. They outrebounded Balkan 2 44-27 including a 37-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Academik Plovdiv looked well-organized offensively handing out 35 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Balkan 2's players. Forward Martin Horozov (200-86) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and forward Dimitar Horozov (198-82) chipped in 33 points (!!!) (on 12-of-13 shooting from the field). Coach Zhivko Zhelev's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was forward Ivaylo Vuchkov (200-90) with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and power forward Rayko Dundalov (199-93) scored 10 points and 9 rebounds. Four Balkan 2 players scored in double figures. Newly promoted Academik Plovdiv maintains second place with 13-4 record having eight points less than leader Dunav 2007. Balkan 2 lost their fourth game in a row. Balkan 2 at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the seventh position with ten games lost. Academik Plovdiv will meet Cherno More U18 (#8) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Balkan 2 will play against Beroe in Stara Zagora and hope to secure a win.
