Regular Season Round 21: Maia Basket - Sangalhos 57-56

A very interesting game took place in Maia. It ended with only one-point defeat on the road of higher ranked Sangalhos (13-8) to eleventh ranked Maia Basket (6-15) 57-56 on Saturday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Sangalhos. Sangalhos were ahead by 4 points at the halftime before a 21-8 third quarter run of Maia Basket. They outrebounded Sangalhos 42-26 including 31 on the defensive glass. Forward Joao Diamantino (201-85) nailed a double-double by scoring 12 points and 14 rebounds for the winning side and guard Rui Monteiro (185-77) accounted for 17 points and 6 rebounds. Forward Nuno Bizarro (192-80) came up with 14 points and swingman Emanuel Silva (188-79) added 12 points respectively for Sangalhos in the defeat. Maia Basket maintains eleventh place with 6-15 record. Sangalhos at the other side keep the fifth position with eight games lost. Maia Basket's next round opponent will be higher ranked Electrico FC (#8) in Ponte de Sor and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Sangalhos will play on the road against the league's leader Barcelos where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
